Soirée: Milo McCabe & Chris Stokes

Genesisocide and Altruism In Birds

CHRIS STOKES

Fresh from supporting Milton Jones on tour, new Phil Mcintyre management signing, Chris Stokes brings his third solo show ‘Altruism In Birds’ to the Pleasance Courtyard for the whole month of August. With Chris’s hilarious and erudite turn of phrase, his act has been described as playing on social misconceptions and dismantling them on stage via gag-packed first-hand anecdotes told with a charming and offbeat sincerity.

“Hilarious” THE SCOTSMAN

Chris is only 30 years old and has already had one nervous breakdown and one failed marriage behind him, primarily because he strongly believes in getting things out of the way as soon as possible. Not that he knew he was having a nervous breakdown. In his mind, he calmly walked away from comedy and went to drive a van for an animal charity, although with hindsight it was obvious he was running away. And he has one thing to thank his for realising that. A seagull.

“Inspired premises... The likes of which you'll never have seen before. Gag-packed... The strike-rate and originality is impressively high.” CHORTLE

Having turned away from comedy he briefly relocated to his parents’ home in a small village in the West Midlands populated by people who serve to highlight why he wanted to leave in the first place, a distressing phone call from his ex-wife prompted him to take a head-clearing walk along the canal where he discovered an infant seagull with a broken wing….

“Very gifted... Has the talent to one day have the world at his feet“ THE LIST ****

Award-winning (Best Show - Dave's Leicester Comedy Festival 2012), he has been performing stand-up comedy since 2007 and since then has supported Milton Jones and Pete Firman on UK tours, recorded a short spot for Dave's One Night Stand, ‘What’s So Funny?’ (BBC Radio 4 Extra)

And ‘Word Of Mouth’ (BBC Radio 4). He has performed at both Latitude and the V Festival as well as taking two solo shows to the Edinburgh Fringe. As well as stand-up, Chris is also one third of new sketch comedy group The Mitford Sisters.

“Real talent... It takes some flair to mix script, tangent, conversation, heartbreak and make it all look so effortless” THE SKINNY ****

MILO MCCABE

Milo McCabe: Genesisocide

Ever wondered about a parallel universe where Phil Collins was murdered as a schoolboy by a time- travelling, cuckolded, angry Greek? Milo McCabe has. The two-time Amused Moose Best Show nominee has produced a fascinating one-man sketch narrative that is impossible to sum up in 100 words. Starring Schoolboy Phil Collins, Dead Phil Collins, Phil Collins, Bob Geldof, Elton John, 2 Unlimited and Morgan
