Soirée: Community Homecoming Day

The Morningside Panthers will run out in a one-off commemorative jumper against Broadbeach on Saturday 18 June at the Panthers home ground Jack Esplen Oval (Hawthorne Park) in what will be a celebration of their history and 150 years of Australian Rules in Queensland.
Supported by AFL Queensland in its 2016 “Homecoming” series, the specially designed jumper will be based on the black and white of the Morningside Senior Australian Football Club prior to their 1950 merger with the Hawthorne Junior Australian Football Club (who wore red and white) to create the iconic club we know today.
The Morningside senior team was formed in 1948 by members of the Morningside Amateur Athletic Club and played their home games inside the velodrome of the Balmoral Cycling Club which is now the site of the secondary oval at the current club grounds at Hawthorne Park.

The Homecoming Day will be about re-connecting with past players, members, volunteers, supporters and the local public, as well as community groups who helped spawn the beginnings of what has truly become a community club.

Hawthorne Park is a hub of activity for families in the area and the club invites everyone to come along and enjoy the day where we will have a heritage display, football games and official recognition of volunteers and community groups.
To assist with funding for their welfare program "Siders For Life", there will be various fundraising activities including any commemorative jumpers not purchased by the players who wear them to be auctioned online in the two weeks leading up to the game with bids closing at the after-match live auction.
