Soirée: Racey 'Lay Your Love on Me' 2017 Tour

The Band formed by Clive Wilson and Phil Fursdon in the UK started performing in pubs and small clubs up and down the country, then secured a month long residency at a night club in Denmark.

After returning to the UK they were spotted by legendary record producer Mickie Most whilst playing the Three Queens Pub in their hometown of Weston-Super-Mare. Mickie signed the Band to his RAK Label.

In November 1978 the Band’s second single ‘Lay Your Love on Me’ was released and became an enormous Christmas hit. Penned by hit-makers Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman, it sold over 950,000 copies in the UK alone to make it RAK Records biggest ever hit single. It went on to become a chart hit all over Europe and a No.1 hit in Australia and New Zealand.

In March 1979, Racey released their next single ‘Some Girls’, also written by Chinn/Chapman. The record became Racey’s biggest hit reaching No.1 in 12 countries, eventually selling over 5,000,000 copies worldwide.

The Band’s first album ‘Smash & Grab’ was released in 1980 and sold over 1,000,000 copies reaching No.1 in Australia, New Zealand, Germany and many other European countries. It reached the accolade of Treble Platinum status in Australia where it remains one of the best-selling albums of all time. Racey eventually earned 35 Gold, Silver and Platinum sales awards. The Band’s chart success finally dried up and in mid 1985 Racey split...until 1990 when they reformed.

Along with the other original member of Racey, Pete Miller, plus new Keyboard player, Ian Hewitt, Racey played to a sell-out crowd and the boys felt great to be back, and back they are with a vengeance.
Pete Miller sadly died on May 6th, 2003 after losing his battle with cancer. His wit, musical love and great voice will be deeply missed.

Racey continue to play throughout the UK and Europe to large audiences and loyal fans. Matt Venn, our new Bass player, is also from Weston-Super-Mare, Racey’s home town.

When Clive, Phil, Ian and Matt are not touring, the boys can be found hard at work in their recording studio...so staying switched on and tuned in...and remember...Some Girls Will!!
